Frequently Asked Questions

Structural Integration

How many sessions should I expect?

12 Series

Most comprehensive Structural Integration project. The 12 series will address all of the facial lines in the body and integrate the work in the final sessions.

3 Series

Ideal for the young developing athlete or as a tune-up after the 12 series. Addresses the major features or compensation patterns in a shorter time frame.

How long is each session and what happens?

N

Each session is about 75 minutes long. The session begins with body reading to asses what will be worked on. Soft tissue manipulation is done on the massage table or while seated on a bench. Time is also taken for the client to get up and walk around to get a felt sense of any changes in their body.

What should I wear to the session?

N

It is important for the client to be comfortable during the session. Shorts with an elastic waist and a sports bra or conservative underwear can be worn for the sessions. A sports bra with a more open back is preferred for the work on the back.

Is the work painful?

N

The work can be sensationful, but should not be painful. The client will be asked to provide active movement along with the soft tissue manipulation. In this way the client can help control the amount of sensation.

Will I be sore after the session?

N

There can be some soreness following a Structural Integration session. This should resolve within a day or two. Not everyone experiences soreness.

Can I resume normal activities after a session?

N

Most normal day to day activities are fine to do after a session. Walking is an excellent activity to do in order to help integrate the work that was done in the session.

Can I got to sports practice after a session?

N

It is best to wait 24-48 hours prior to going to a sports practice following a Structural Integration session. During the session, tissue is moved and the proprioception of the body may be changed some. Give the brain some time to relearn where the body is in space before going back to a hard practice or workout.

Should I have SI work during my sport season?

N

Major Structural Integration work such as a 12 series is best done in the off season. A 3 series can fit in the season as long as there is time to rest 24-48 hours after each session.
